Manifesto of African girls at the Women Deliver Conference for the empowerment of girls and the elimination of violence against children
This document is a manifesto from girls from Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, DRC and Niger representing children from across Africa at the Women Deliver 2023 conference being held in Kigali from 17-20 July 2023. Supported by World Vision, they were honoured to make their voices heard before, during and after the Women Deliver 2023 conference, the world's largest gathering to advance equality between men and women. Through this manifesto, they began by expressing their delight that leaders from government, civil society, UN agencies, donors and faith leaders were present in Kigali to listen to them and catalyse a global movement in the way the world treats children. Together, a union is being created to empower girls and end violence against children.
Through this document, girls who are agents of change want to take collective action and hold leaders accountable. They are calling for an end to violence against girls, including harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation, the exploitation of child labour, sexual violence and the association of children with armed groups and forces.
