Emergency responders showcase at information management marketplace

12 MAY 2017  (BANGKOK)  -- World Vision is convening representatives from the Asia-Pacific’s top disaster management organizations and agencies from 16-18 May in Bangkok to discuss the latest innovations on information management in emergency response.

On the sidelines of the meeting, World Vision will launch a guidebook produced with the support of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The 92-page “Using Information Management in Preparedness and Response: Making Timely and Relevant Decisions” provides response managers information spanning geoportals for information sharing to evidence-based programming.

Technical experts in emergency response from the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre, the International Committee of the Red Cross, UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific (ESCAP), International Organization for Migration (IOM), World Vision, and government officials from Thailand, the Solomon Islands and Philippines, among others, will share information platforms and technology in disaster response, including a statistical platform for disaster risk management, civil registration tools and a humanitarian data exchange portal.

“Too much data can cripple us if we don’t link, manage and make use of all that data,” said World Vision East Asia’s Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs Director, Ms. Meimei Leung. “This workshop is a continuation of an on-going discussion of how to improve information management in crises. How can information management save lives?”

The event is open at no cost to aid workers, emergency responders and interested members of the public. To register, please email your name, organization and dates of attendance to chanpachayar_boonmaitree@wvi.org,  +66 2 022 7050.
