After a historic drought, Somalia now braces for El Niño rains: At least a million people at high risk of flooding
After a brutal and historic drought in 2022, Somalia now braces for the El Niño rains. Forecasts warn that the El Niño rains, expected to start in October and last until October would trigger severe flooding in southern and central Somalia.
On Thursday of last week, Baidoa, the capital city of South West State, south central Somalia was the epicentre of heavy rains that lasted at least 12 hours. The rains that started the evening of Wednesday continued through the night into Thursday morning, causing flash floods in the aftermath, with significant damage to infrastructure.

World Vision Zambia with support from the Australian government, donates 300 bicycles to FMNR Champions
With support from the Australian Government, World Vision Zambia recently distributed 300 bicycles to volunteers supporting the Sustainable Land Restoration Project (SLaR). Through its regreening agenda, SLaR is restoring 150 hectares of land in Katete, Sinda, and Chibombo districts.

World Vision's SLEPP project empowers 150 families in Choompa community with 3,000 Sasso chickens
World Vision Zambia, through the Small Livestock Enterprise Promotion project (SLEPP), distributed 3000 improved village chickens (Sasso) to 150 families in Choompa Community in Pemba district of Southern Province to improve the well-being of children in the area.
The SLEPP Project aims to empower vulnerable households by promoting better chicken breeds, increasing income and improving nutrition.
