Health Department, partners, prepare to Kick TB out of Daru, PNG

The National Department of Health (NDoH) and partner efforts to fight TB in Daru, Western Province has been scaled up with the purchase of a K3 million Mobile TB Clinic van, part of the Governnment of PNG's K8 million emergency funding for TB in Daru.

World Vision's Technical Advisor for TB (Western Province & NCD) Dr. Sonia Madjus welcomed the mobile clinic. Through the screening excericse, it is hoped that at least 85% of the population on Daru Island will be screeened for TB with further diagnosis and treatment by partners including the Daru Provincial Health Office, Daru General Hospital, Burnet Institute and HHISP (Health & HIV Implementation Service Provider).

Also there to witness the occasion were our Australian Government and donor partners Andrew Dollimore, Health Program Manager from the Australian High Commission in PNG and Peter Lindenmayer, Director, PNG Human Development & Infrastructure from DFAT Canberra, National TB Program Manager Dr. Paul Aia and Western Provincial Health and government representatives.
