International Literacy Day: Thank you, Teacher!

Wednesday, September 6, 2017

September 8, 2017 is International Literacy Day.

World Vision celebrates Papua New Guinea's dedicated teacher volunteers and honors their contributions towards fostering the intellectual and social development of children during their formative years. The quality of education they impart plays a crucial role in helping children achieve a level of development that will help them adapt to the challenges of formal schooling.

Demlyn Dama, one of a hundred teacher volunteers trained and supported by World Vision under the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) of the Australian Government School Readiness Project, continues to pour her heart and mind into keeping her learning center running with assistance from community members in one of the settlements in Port Moresby.

"I am very grateful to be among those selected to attend the training for teachers organised by World Vision. I'm now teaching children with great understanding of their behavior and learning capacity," she said.
