Aftershocks always begin with a soft boom that reminds me of distant artillery fire. Then the earth begins to shake, or it used to. Lately, the tremors have been so intense the ground vibrates.

Diversified crops help during lean times
Assetou Mounkoro, a 10-year-old girl, is a World Vision Registered Child. Her family farms and they grow millet, rice, peanuts, phonio and beans. They also have a few animals such as three horses, a few oxen, sheep and a donkey.

Restoring hope
Each time Rita Rana, an eighteen month-old girl was hungry, she was fed with watery starch - cooked rice from a dirty bowl. Some days, apart from milk, this was the only food she was given. Not only were her meals without nutrition but they also also lacked hygiene.
