Our Approaches

World Vision has more than 50 years of international programme experience and more than 17 years of nutrition-focused programming. As the largest non-governmental organisation, with programmes in 98 countries around the world and partnerships with multiple external agencies, we have a wealth of experience to draw from in profiling better practices in nutrition interventions.

This section highlights some of our best evidenced-based practices in nutrition following our Child Well-Being Outcomes for reaching our Global Health and Nutrition Goal of improving the health and nutrition of women and children in the areas in which we work, contributing to the global reduction of under-five and maternal mortality.

The nutritional needs of vulnerable mothers and children are best met through an integrated package of targeted interventions. A life free from undernutrition starts with an adequate diet and iron/folate supplementation for pregnant mothers, followed by optimal breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices. Ensuring adequate iron for young children and vitamin A supplementation are important strategies for increasing micronutrient intake. World Vision uses the Positive Deviance/Hearth model to sustainably rehabilitate underweight children, and implements Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition in contexts with high rates of acute malnutrition.
