Defying all odds to create a ‘Better Future’
Yvonne is an 18-year-old girl who lives in Huye District. She is the first born in a family of four girls. While that is a blessing, her father did not think so as he still held on to regressive views of the boy child being more valuable than the girl child. He constantly harassed their mother for not giving birth to sons and also refused to take responsibility of providing for his children. Yvonne’s family was already living in poverty and in disputes but this worsened when they had the fourth girl. She was born with mobility challenges and deaf-blindness.

Market-Based Sanitation and Hygiene
Standard Community-Led Total Sanitation implementation (alone or with limited Sanitation Marketing) and standard hygiene promotion are currently not sufficient. To accelerate our progress and close the sanitation and hygiene gap, World Vision is partnering with iDE in four countries (Burundi, Ghana, Mozambique and Zambia) to leverage our broad geographic footprint and deepen community connections alongside iDE’s expertise in human-centred design and market-based sanitation. With a strong evidence base, the right product and service mix, and a deep understanding of local markets, this iDE and World Vision partnership will enable us to achieve sustainable gains in coverage and attract much-needed investment in the sector to accelerate universal access to WASH services.

The water-borne diseases from which the children suffered have now disappeared.

Une course de 6 km pour apporter de l’eau à Diamagadio au Sénégal
6 km, c’est la distance moyenne parcourue par certains enfants pour aller chercher de l’eau potable. World Vision organise le Global 6K chaque année afin que les participants parcourent cette même distance tout en finançant un projet d’accès à l’eau.
