A Garden of Opportunity: Rebuilding Lives through Sustainable Agriculture
In 2023, when war erupted in Sudan, 38-year-old Ayiik made the difficult decision to remain behind while his family fled to safety. As the conflict intensified, life became increasingly challenging. Job opportunities vanished, and within six months Ayiik lost his livelihood, making it impossible to continue supporting his family from a distance. Determined to reunite with them, he travelled to South Sudan in search of his loved ones.
After leaving the camp in pursuit of a better future, the family settled in Mangar Tong, where they built a temporary shelter and began rebuilding their lives from nothing. Hope arrived through the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) Project, implemented by World Vision. The project supports smallholder farmers in Northern Bahr el Ghazal by providing training on sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices. These skills help families like Ayiik’s strengthen their livelihoods, improve food security, and build resilience against climate-related and economic challenges.
