Close the Gap - 4-10 September 2013

Since 2000, the world has seen amazing progress in saving the lives of millions of children.

However, millions are still living in extreme poverty and 6.6 million do not live to see their fifth birthday. Whilst progress is happening, it is not happening fast enough. In some cases it is leaving the poorest and most vulnerable communities behind; widening the poverty gap even further.

Between 4-10 September 2013 World Vision’s Child Health Now campaign mobilised supporters and  staff in 56 countries ahead of the 2013 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), to call on world leaders to ‘Close the Gap’ on poverty so all children can Survive 5.

Close the Gap Highlights:

  • 56 countries participated
  • 24 World Vision offices directly lobbied their governments ahead of the UNGA
  • The #ClosetheGap hashtag reached over 8.6 million twitter accounts
  • Churches saw more than 485,000 people mobilised from thousands of diverse congregations around the world
