Ending Child Marriage in Kenya: The Path Forward

In 2022, Kitui and Tana River Counties endured severe droughts, impacting crops, water, and livelihoods. Through USAID-BHA-funded KIERP, World Vision Kenya built water sources and storage tanks to support schools and health centers, alleviating the crisis.

This annual internship programme is designed to provide real work experience and professional development to university undergraduates.

Responding to children’s urgent call for climate justice, World Vision has developed the first organisation-wide Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action (ESCA) Strategic Roadmap. World Vision completed the first stocktake of ESCA -related programmes implemented during financial years 2023-24 across 69 countries.

The purpose of this guide is to provide World Vision staff with practical ways of understanding gender-based violence (GBV) concepts. It supports the understanding of key concepts related to GBV to enhance the development of interventions to address gender-based violence in non-targeted programming (mainstreaming).

When our colleague Mark visited Ghor in July 2024, he met vulnerable children, women, farmers, WV’s projects and WV Afghanistan staff who were affected by floods in this province. His heart was broken after seeing the situation of one of our colleagues’ family whose house was destroyed by the floods leaving them living in tents. He wanted to help and decided to run for 24 hours to raise funds to support this colleague and ensure he can make a shelter for his family. Thank you, Mark, and the 60 individual supporters who together donated over £4000 to support our colleagues!

In 2021, 79.2% of Kenya’s adult population had bank accounts, a significant increase from 42.34% in 2011. However, rural communities without access to banking services still struggle to save for basic needs. To address this, World Vision's Central Rift Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration Scale Up Project (CRIFSUP), funded by ANCP, uses the Savings for Transformation (S4T) model to build household resilience. Isaac Chelal from Nakuru County exemplifies success, starting a watermelon business through his involvement with S4T and the Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) approach.

Kenya's 2024 heavy rains and flash floods impacted over 306,000 people, causing widespread displacement, infrastructure damage, and loss of life. Humanitarian organisations like World Vision Kenya and its partners, IOM Kenya, are providing critical post-flood assistance to affected communities.

World Vision staff globally came together for the Annual Day of Prayer on October 1, 2024, with the theme 'Christ at the Centre at All Times.' In Kenya, the event at Nairobi Chapel reaffirmed the organisation's commitment to faith-driven work with children and communities, featuring a powerful message from East Africa Regional Leader Lilian Dodzo on the centrality of Christ in their mission.
