Today, children in East Africa face an array of challenges. Conflict disrupts lives in Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan and Ethiopia, forcing families to flee their homes and depriving children of safety, stability, and access to education. Of particular concern, is the dire food insecurity in the region, occasioned by the polycrisis of conflict, climate change and economic hardship.

In this issue of the West & Central Africa Newsletter, we turn our focus to the pressing needs confronting our region, which range from disease outbreaks and climate-related challenges to conflict and an underfunded displacement crisis – all in the backdrop of shrinking humanitarian funding.

This is the two years on report for the Global Hunger Response, including highlights from the last fiscal year (FY24).

Hunger is a greater threat to children than ever before. As climate change and conflict threaten food security, the youngest members of society are struggling to eat. We believe there is enough political will across Africa to bring child hunger to an end. But we need to act now to turn that will into concrete action. So that every child can survive and thrive.
