Australian farmer upgrades 3rd health centre in Northern Uganda; commits to support West Nile Refugee Response.

World Vision recently hosted Ridley and Mieke Bell of Mountain Blue Farms. The team were joined by fellow farmers from different countries as wells ministers of christ. Together, they visited projects in Northern Uganda where the Ridley family has since 2014 invested over USD$2 Million in education and health systems strengthening. 

The team visited Opeta Health Centre which was upgraded in 2014 to a Health Centre III complete with a maternity ward housing 23 beds with wash rooms. There is also a pediatric ward, a general ward, medical staff quarters, and a play area for children, new toilets, solar-powered running water and electricity – all constructed thanks to the support of Mountain Blue Farms

A second health centre was constructed and also upgraded to health centre III in Pacer parish in Agago district. Pacer health center III has been boosted with a new general ward was also constructed with a male and female section, pediatric ward, maternity ward, delivery room/labor suite and midwife’s room complete with solar lighting system. Mountain Blue farms also constructed a placenta pit, an incinerator and 2 blocks of staff houses with 8 units to accommodate 8 staff. In addition, Pacer health centre and the surrounding communities were also supported with a motorized water system that uses both solar and a generator to pump and supply clean drinking water to more than 10,000 people.

Construction of a modern health center III facility is currently underway at Atipe parish in Oyam district. These would include  a general/maternity ward and out- patient department with a modern laboratory including - a male, pediatric, female, store, laundry, waiting room, examination, patient kitchen and consultation rooms. 

The Ridley’s also visited the refugee response operations in West Nile where they interacted with children, men and women fleeing conflict in South Sudan. They have committed to partner with World Vision on a 3-year long term development program for Odravu sub-county in Yumbe district, targeting refugees and host communities. The areas of focus during this period would include Education, Child Protection, Health, Livelihoods and Resilience.
