e-mlimi: Transforming Farmer's Lives through Technology
Recurring droughts afflict Malawi’s agriculture sector, threatening the welfare and livelihoods of Malawi’s smallholder farmers, who constitute 80 percent of Malawi’s population. In a country where thirty-eight percent of its population lives below the poverty line, and 47 percent of children are stunted, there's need for a game changer in the Agricultural sector.
To save the situation, World Vision and its partners VisionFund Malawi and Farm Concern International, have a mobile application known as e-mlimi through which farmers are remotely trained on farming practices as well as linked to potential markets.
