Mobilising to prevent child marriages from happening

Children have often found it difficult to realise their participation rights.  The notable exception is through "child activism", where children take action on matters that are important to them for social change.

This research explores examples in Bangladesh and Ghana, where children invested their commitment to stop potential child brides being married off.

These children were successful, because they drew on critical social capital and mobilised key stakeholders.

Furthermore, the children were supported and provided with an enabling environment, so they could operate freely and to choose the topics in which they want to engage, within an international development framework.
