Aide et Action partners with World Vision for out-of-school children in 638 primary schools

Aide et Action / Action Education (AEA) and World Vision International (WVI) signed a partnership agreement aiming to promote equitable access, quality and relevance of primary education and the ownership and accountability to address the issues of the marginalised, Out-of-School Children (OOSC), covering 638 primary schools in 31 districts of 10 provinces across Cambodia, consisting of Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kandal, Kampong Thom, Kratie, Preah Vihear,  Banteay Meanchey, Battambang and Siem Reap. 

AEA serves as the lead of the Consortium for Out-of-School Children (CCOSC), consisting of 29 partners and covering 2,694 schools, targeting 116,396 newly enrolled OOSC across Cambodia. WVI will focus on the technical oversight of the education program to improve the quality and relevance of learning and teaching by building school-community partnerships and ownerships, and enrolling and retaining all OOSC in the target areas for a full course of primary schooling with good quality learning outcomes. WVI will also support the Consortium into act as an influencer of policy dialogues concerning OOSC issues with the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport (MoEYS). 

With the financial support of Educate A Child (EAC) of Education Above All Foundation, the Consortium for Out-of-School Children was launched its Phase I in 2014 as a nationwide project as the movement to support marginalised out-of-school children; 1,388 schools were supported in Phase I (2014-2017). Phase II of the consortium includes 29 organisations that cater to a comprehensive and inclusive Cambodian education system for children with disabilities, street children, over-aged students, poor and remote children, and ethnic minorities. 

The Partnership between AEA/AE and WVI will cover 3 years from 2023 through 2025, with a total funding of $5.04M, with significant leverage of 36% AEA/Action Education contribution and 64% WVI contribution. Through this partnership, the Consortium will support the building of 8 new standard schools, enrol and retain 15,950 OOSC (50% girls), 9,000 in-kind study support and services for learning for OOSC, and professional development for upwards of 5,000 teachers and education actors.
