Mavin Group and World Vision Signed a MOU on Bilateral Cooperation To Improve Farmers’ Lives in Vietnam
Hanoi, Vietnam - On 25 September 2018, Mavin Group and World Vision signed a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation to provide livelihood support for poor households in Vietnam.
More specifically, Mavin Group and World Vision will join hands for a three year - business livelihood support project. It aims to improve the economic well-being of 25 ethnic minority households in Nhu Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province by enabling them to develop small farming businesses to generate income and improve their livelihood.
Participating households will be provided with high-quality piglets (each weights 15 to 20 kg). Each will receive a full provision of animal husbandry and pig raising techniques, pelleted concentrate feed, and veterinary support to minimize risks of disease. The project will also inform/update farmers with market information and advise them on the most reasonable sale prices while fully respecting their autonomy to conclude the deals with traders.
“Instead of providing financial support for poor households to overcome poverty, helping them develop a sustainable livelihood and take control of a small business with a stable income, and from that point improve their own living standards is the main goal in all of Mavin Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility programs. Through this method, we help them escape poverty as well as helping them to access effective husbandry and hygienic products, and simultaneously contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s agriculture,” saidDavid John Whitehead, Chairman of Mavin Group.
Beside a holistic approach to create sustainable influences on impoverished farmers’ lives, the joint project between Mavin and World Vision also open other opportunities for a more effective working partnership between non-profit and private sectors.
World Vision Vietnam’s National Director Tran Thu Huyen stated: “The tradition of collaboration has always considered the private sector as financial donor. However, with this new project, Mavin Group will be a reliable implementing partner. We believe that this new approach will allow each party to leverage strengths and specialties to make a broader impact on the communities in need, thus create a favorable environment for children to enjoy life in all its fullness.”
This MOU signing acts as the first step towards further collaboration in livelihood programs between Mavin Group and World Vision.
