What is an ADP?

The Area Development Program (ADP) is the operational strategy through which World Vision serves communities. This strategy includes initiatives to promote justice, spiritual growth, health, education, agriculture, water and sanitation, infrastructure, leadership, gender equity, economic development, and child and adolescent participation, according to the individual community’s needs and priorities. These programs range from 15 or 20 years length, after which people in the communities continue their own development. The organization has 13 ADPs at this time in the Dominican Republic.

Our work in an ADP also responds to immediate problems, while seeking to address the root causes of poverty through advocacy, community organization and economic development.

 What is Child Sponsorship?

Child sponsorship seeks to connect people around the world who want to help address poverty and build better lives for children. The sponsor commits to a monthly contribution and has opportunities to witness and understand improvements for that child, as well as other children in that community.

World Vision and community groups work together to monitor each sponsored child regularly, thereby helping children to be cared for and protected, and to participate in projects under way that community, such as improving access to health, education, literacy, or other services. By combining the donations given by sponsors in a specific project area, the organisation is able to work in that community for 15 to 20 years.
