POSITION:            Emergency & Infectious Disease Specialist

1.    Major Responsibilities:

  • Together with the health team coordinate the development and updating of program guidance for use by APs from emergency and infectious disease perspective
  • Ensure that emergency and infectious disease programs are in line with WVI/E and Government policies and standards. Build capacity of AP staff and partners to understand these standards
  • Ensure adequate and high quality monitoring, supervision and evaluation of nutrition programs, linkage and alignment with other programs.
  • To ensure AP AoPs effectively support the implementation of priority emergency and infectious disease -related issues
  • To ensure all new and re-design programmes introduce appropriate emergency and infectious disease -related approaches during the design phase for effective programming.
  • Represent WV in donors/partners and other national meetings that relate to emergency and infectious disease
  •  Create and maintain linkages with key implementing and research partners within Ethiopia in emergency (e.g. ENCU) and infectious disease programming
  • Participate and be an active participant in the national emergency and infectious disease working group. Represent the NO in emergency and infectious disease -related meetings where appropriate
  • Provide and coordinate technical assistance for emergency and infectious disease resource acquisition work in the NO, working to ensure that the NO acquires adequate public and private funding to scale up strategic and high quality emergency and infectious disease
  • Take part in the identification of resource gaps and lead the development of  concept papers and proposals to emergency and infectious disease programs

2. Qualifications Required:   Master’s degree in public health or infectious diseases or MD with 2 years of emergency and infectious diseases programming experience                                

3. Work Experience: A minimum of 4 years with specific experience in emergency and infectious disease programming

4. Technical Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent skills required in proposal writing and prepositioning
  • Significant bi-lateral donor grant experience with program implementation, funding acquisition, and reporting
  • Good knowledge of World Vision operations and national office programming
  • Must be a creative individual with strong sense of priorities and organizational skills and an ability to work with diverse teams across considerable distances
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and strong interpersonal skills are needed
  • Must be able to negotiate ideas within and outside the World Vision partnership, particularly with donor communities and government.
  • A mature Christian, who's willing to serve in very difficult conditions
