Zimbabwe-CoH/ IGATE

Tuesday, June 28, 2016

One religious leader trained by UDACIZA came to the school to talk to the students during assembly.  She talked about the dangers of teenage pregnancies and early marriages as well as the need for both girls and boys to concentrate on their education. She was then allowed by the school authorities to start an IGATE club which mostly trained girls on how to handle issues that affect their rights and access to education.  The matron also helps in the IGATE club on dealing with problems faced by girls at school.

The CoH programme through UDACIZA, empowered girls to improve on their confidence levels and self-esteem through the girls club. One student from the Zion Church was trained as a facilitator and is also helping other girls with their confidence and assertiveness. She contested in a modelling competition and won the Miss Bhulu title, a clear testimony that the girls is now confident to express herself especially coming from a conservative religious background. Because of the achievements of this girl, the club’s membership is growing and we are now around 50 as more and more girls want to join after witnessing the achievements of our facilitator.
