The Impact of FMNR on farmers in Kolokani area

Tuesday, January 5, 2016

When Famougoury, 45 years old, a father of ten children, farmer in the village of Zambougou, Koulikoro region attended trainings and advices from KRRP staff, like other farmers he applied during the last two years those techniques in his millet farm. He understood how to prevent soils’ erosion and avoid the fact that water removes all the nutritional elements of the soil.

Famougoury was happy to tell how successful the new techniques brought changes in terms of increase of crop production. Before Kolokani Rural Recovery Program intervention among the village farmers, Famougoury could not produce enough grains of millet with the same space of 2 areas of land he is farming now. “With my farm of 5 areas, I had only 3500 kilograms of millet before I integrate KRRP techniques in my way of farming; but now when I have adopted those techniques, this year, I got about 5500 kilograms of millet crop with a surface of only 2 areas”: Famougoury said. He continued: “It is like I have earned more than 2 tones and half of millet in each area I cultivated with the new techniques”.
