Shelter kits distributed in earthquake-affected communities on Makira

Arriving one day after powerful earthquake rocked Makira Province in the Solomon Islands, World Vision Communications Officer, Mike Puia, captured photos of the destruction caused by the earthquake and its impact on the lives of families and children.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake destroyed homes and food gardens and the threat of tsunami forced hundreds to flee to higher ground.

Mike's photos follow the work of a rapid response team led by the Makira Provincial Disaster Management Office. They were the first to visit affected communities and distribute relief supplies, including World Vision shelter kits.
