Hundreds of World Vision staff from the field office in Mozambique engaged throughout the month of February in deep reflections on child and adult Safeguarding. The reflections kicked off the week the organization as a whole embarked onto celebrations of Safeguarding with the exhibition of video messages for internal and external audiences.

‘Safeguarding is not just a policy, it is who we are, it is our culture, it begins with me and each one of you. The whole staff from local, district to the national office gathered every Monday during devotions (World Vision meetings to reflect around the biblical words) to discuss how to strengthen individuals and the organization as Safeguarding champions while serving the children and the communities even better.

Reflections on Safeguarding at the frontline were developed to identify fragilities that require improvement on the internal capacity of the organization for safeguarding; (ii) reinforce messages on reporting and response mechanisms to incidents of Safeguarding,

The discussions centered on Safeguarding looking at the following themes: i) zero tolerance for negligence, ii) recognizing that we are not above temptation iii)Talking about Safeguarding and iv) the tireless search for true ends by moral means.

“One fundamental action that each and every one of us has to do is to be able to report any incident against children regardless of who is involved,” said a staff member during a reflection moment.

World Vision staff shared during the reflection moments that regular discussion and continued exposure to Safeguarding content will contribute to making the office complaint to accepted behavior internally and externally.

“The reflection doesn't end here, we have been discussing Safeguarding the whole month and we should continue,” said Eleuterio Fenita, Director of Advocacy and Engagement closing up the month full of reflections.
