Our Work

(Haree versaun Tetun iha okos)

Working for mothers and children

World Vision Timor-Leste runs projects in three sectors – health, education and community development. In 2015, we will launch a new project with a focus on preventing gender-based violence.

Health, nutrition and clean water

Health is our biggest sector, with health projects accounting for 51% of our spending in the 2014 financial year. Our overriding goal is to ensure good health and nutrition, and access to clean water for mothers and children.

Education focus on under-fives

We focus on early childhood education and have helped communities set up 44 centres to provide care for and to educate under-five-year-olds.

We use a holistic approach, so that a child and its parents will learn about nutritious food, a healthy lifestyle and personal hygiene along with the basics of reading and writing.

Raising communities’ living standards

We aim to boost the food security of households by raising their food production and diversifying their crops. To lift economic development, we assist farmers get their produce to market, and help villages set up savings and loans groups - 61 new groups were set up in 2014, amassing a combined capital of $118,078.

We also have a strong environmental focus, helping communities to reduce environmental degradation and to become more resilient as the climate changes.

Reducing gender-based violence

All our projects look for ways to empower women and increase gender equity, and we are pleased to be launching a gender-based violence prevention project in 2015.
This project will assist communities, local leaders and government officials to prevent violence by changing the attitudes and behaviours of men, women, boys and girls.
