Literacy

World Vision Zambia has for the past thirty five years contributed to increasing access to quality education for vulnerable children within the 40 Area Development Programs (ADPs) spread across all the ten provinces of Zambia.Specifically, more than 100 classroom blocks (1x2 and 1x3 CRB) have been constructed, over 3,000 desks have been supplied to schools, over 40,000 academic course books and readers have been supplied reaching approximately 100,000 registered children.

From FY 17, World Vision Zambia will now focus on contributing to the improvement of literacy and numeracy for children through equity and quality education. So far, over 60 educators from the Ministry of General Education have been trained as ‘Trainers of Trainers’ for the teacher training component of the literacy program.  In addition, more than 1,500 community members have been sensitised on the importance of parental involvement in the education of their children.

Through the literacy programme we expect beneficiaries to demonstrate improved literacy and numeracy skills and ultimately improved learning outcomes.
