The library has capacity for 60 nursing and midwifery students. It includes one terabyte digital library that enables students and teachers to increase their knowledge with new updated information. The aim of this initiative is to provide a model for inquiry learning to allow students to not only rely on the institute’s textbooks, but empower them to explore more information through the supplementary digital and non-digital books.

More about the project:

In 2013, through Japan Platform funding and in partnership with World Vision Japan, World Vision Afghanistan completed construction of a new and modern Institute of Health science (I.H.S.) building in Herat for midwifery students, complete with the training equipment for laboratories. Through the project, certified midwives and nurses participate in refresher courses and practical training conducted within the institute. The project also established a mobile health team comprised of midwifery students to get further practical experience through providing services and medicines to 60,276 children and mothers in four vulnerable communities in Herat City where access to health care is limited.
