This project revitalizes the Orthodox Tradition, which is so precious to so many in a country wrecked by communism and today, is again facing transition.

For children and their parents faith remains their stronghold, but there had been a great need for appropriate tools to make faith relevant in the present context. The Synod had now recommended the curriculum to be available in the entire Romanian Orthodox Church (within the country and Diaspora).

Similar Youth Bible Curriculum have been running in partnership with Orthodox Churches and other denominations from Albania, Armenia, Bosnia, Egypt, Georgia, Lebanon, Russia for the last ten years.

For children and their parents faith remains their stronghold, but there had been a great need for appropriate tools to make faith relevant in the present context Equally important are Catechetical Guides for the Parishes, the first of their kind in the Romanian Orthodox context. These also featured at the launch of the project in Vilcea County. The guides have been specifically created as modern religious education tool for children that are age and culture specific to engage the children in the learning process.

“This manual comes to help those who educate the children in the spirit of faith”, said His Holiness Gherasim, the Bishop of Ramnic, blessing the curriculum and the people present.

For World Vision the partnership with the church in Romania, is an important part of its participatory approach towards building and strengthening the society “The guide is extremely interesting, it is written in an accessible language and it addresses the children and their parents. It can be used at home and in school”, said Mr. Petre Mateescu-Religion Inspector within the local Education Department in Vilcea County.

“For me these guides represent an additional instrument which I will use in religious education of children”, said Priest Titu, one of the thirty parish priest participants at the launch event.

The first series of manuals for children’s religious education consists of two sets for teachers and children entitled “Our life with God”, specifically for children of 9 to 10 years of age. For World Vision the partnership with the church in Romania, is an important part of its participatory approach towards building and strengthening the society.
