Join the voices of children across Asia Pacific to end child malnutrition and hunger
In a world of plenty… demand that every child has ENOUGH nutritious food to thrive
“Hunger is a bad thing and can cause malnutrition. Children experience hunger because of the economic crisis and lack of financial support for families. As a child, I can share some of my pocket money and together with my friends donate food to those in need. Hunger is a problem that we should be aware of."
- Kujitha, age 15, Sri Lanka
The world has enough, and yet children like Kujitha aren’t experiencing that. Say ENOUGH. Take action to join her call. Let’s work together to eliminate child hunger and malnutrition now!
We’re calling for ENOUGH of the right food – even in crises. Food policies and services centred on and influenced by children. Every child should enjoy ENOUGH nourishing food to thrive.
Add your name if you’ve had ENOUGH.
In a world of plenty… demand that every child has ENOUGH nutritious food to thrive
Say #ENOUGH
The world today contains 1.8 billion young people, wherein approximately 60% reside in Asia and the Pacific. The region is home to an increasingly youthful population where children and young people are faced with various challenges that include increased levels of hunger, stunting, and wasting worsened by the impacts of COVID-19. However, there remains a data gap in quantifying the extent of hunger and malnutrition across the region.
World Vision has conducted both informal and formal dialogues with children in several assisted areas in Asia and the Pacific. Children expressed that they know what hunger is, they have either experienced it or have friends whose families go consistently without food and become malnourished. They have witnessed how their peers, particularly girls, are more likely to drop out of school and are more vulnerable to violence because of hunger and malnutrition.
Children also believe that there is enough food to go around in the world, that food is a basic human right, and that no one should go hungry. Children and young people acknowledge school-based feeding programs led by their governments as well as kitchen gardens which are hubs for nutrition learning and a source of fresh nourishing food supply – some of them established with local and external support.
However, food insecurity is a real challenge in our region. This is linked to social, political and economic challenges including migration, climate change, and the need for more concerted efforts towards a healthier and sustainable environment.
As a child-focused organisation, World Vision is resolute in its commitment to helping the most vulnerable children experience fullness of life. We believe that every child has the right to be well-nourished and healthy, growing in a nurturing environment. We are determined to significantly contribute to ending hunger and malnutrition together with children, families, government, coalitions, and different stakeholders.
