Promoting Clean Energy
Action for a just and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet
Prioritising access to clean energy for all
Adopting clean energy is integral to the fight against climate change. Shifting away from fossil fuels and investing in renewable energy sources is critical to building a sustainable future. These renewable solutions—abundantly provided by the sun, wind, water, waste, and geothermal heat—are naturally replenished, and thus clean, accessible, affordable and reliable.
Ensuring vulnerable communities have access to clean energy is essential to that vision of a sustainable future. These communities are often the most affected by the impacts of climate change and energy poverty, yet they contribute the least to global emissions.
At World Vision, we are embracing renewable energy solutions like solar power to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote sustainability. By integrating solar energy into our programmes, we aim to create lasting change for vulnerable communities, ensuring that families have access to affordable, clean, and reliable energy to not only improve their living conditions—powering schools, homes, and health facilities—but also participate in protecting the environment and advancing global climate resilience.
How clean energy solutions are being promoted in East Asia
Solar energy solution for preschools
This initiative aims to enhance the educational environment in remote areas by providing reliable solar power which ensures safer and better-equipped learning spaces for children. With stable electricity running on solar energy, children benefit from consistent lighting and functional water systems, thereby improving academic performance and well-being. Financial savings from solar power have allowed schools to enhance facilities, purchase educational materials, and improve childcare services, reducing the financial burden on parents.
Solar energy for households
Many communities we serve are still living off the grid. This means children studying under dim candlelight, families navigating dark evenings, and an increased risk of safety concerns after sunset. Providing families and children access to lights means more than just brighter evenings—it means safer playtime, better study opportunities, and fewer risks of harm in the communities. It’s a step toward a more secure and connected community for these families.
Solar energy for better livelihoods
In countries with immense climate challenges like Mongolia, the solar greenhouse model has been proven transformative as it provides sustainable food sources and economic opportunities to smallholder farmers. It enables families to foster resilience and self-sufficiency against the harsh weather conditions, not only addressing the immediate need for food security but also building a foundation for long-term community well-being.
