1st Central American & Caribbean Forum Of Violence Against Children

On December 1st and 2nd 2011,  will be conducting in the Dominican Republic, FIRST CENTRAL AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN MEETING PURSUANT TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE GLOBAL STUDY ABOUT VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN. At the meeting will participate senior officials of the state with children, media, civil society organizations working for non-violence to children, Nongovernmental Organizations in Central America, Panama, Mexico, Cuba and Dominican Republic, including World Vision.

The nature, causes and effects of violence against children were documented in the Global Study on Violence against Children submitted to the United Nations General Assembly in 2006. The study makes 12 recommendations containing general measures that all governments should consider to prevent violence against children and respond to it when it occurs.

For this reason, the Central American and Caribbean meeting, aims to raise awareness about the findings of the Study on Violence and recommendations between all actors who have any obligation or responsibility relating to the protection of childhood.

Dr. Marta Santos Pais, Special Representative of the United Nations of General Secretary on Violence against Children has expressed his priorities in this role will focus on the following recommendations: 1) The creation of coordination mechanisms at national level for non-violence towards children and public policies, strategies and comprehensive plans in this area (recommendation 1). 2) Legislative reforms to ensure the protection of children and adolescents from all type of violence (recommendation 2),  3) Creating information systems and data to support public policies, strategies and comprehensive plans in this area (recommendation 11).
