Our Goal

We want to increase the number of children who are well nourished. We are working towards this by: 

  • Increasing household income
  • Improving household food security
  • Improving families’ abilities to cope with emergencies
  • Improving on-farm and off-farm management of natural resources
What is the problem?

Both South Darfur and Blue Nile States are characterised by massive population displacement and high levels of poverty, with many families living in camps for internally displaced people. When families flee, they are often forced to leave behind their only assets and their support networks, arriving in already over-populated areas where employment opportunities are scarce and often underpaid.

How is World Vision addressing the issues?

We are equipping farmers and vulnerable individuals with skills, technologies and the start-up capital necessary for them to sustainably grow food and/or start income generating activities. 

Is what World Vision doing working?

Yes! Thanks to food distribution and cash-for-work schemes, children are able to eat. But, with decreasing humanitarian budgets, we know that aid is not a long-term solution. For this reason, we are working with farmers and helping them to increase their harvests and as a result their incomes through training and modern farming implements.

What’s the impact in 2022?
  • 899,350 people were reached through our food security and livelihoods programmes, including the food assistance portfolio which covers food and cash-based assistance, implemented largely with the support of the World Food Programme (WFP). 
  • Over 71,000 people were trained and engaged in livelihoods safety net activities including sewing, handicraft making, local basket-weaving, vegetable gardening, brick-making and improved crop production and provision of livestock to support food production as well as improve household income. 

  • 85,000 children across 117 school reached through the school feeding programme, implemented with the support of WFP.
