International Children’s Day 2012
The District government together with World Vision Lao at Khammouan Province conducted the Children’s Day Celebration on June 7, 2012. The Children’s Day and National Planning Day Celebration took place at Ngommalat District, Khammouan Province with a total of 105 registered children participating. Although the primary ADP partner was Ngommalath District, children from Xaybouathong, Mahaxay and Xebangfai Districts joined also.
Mr. Manyvong Chanthavong, Deputy Governor and Mr. Kongkham BounNyasak Deputy Head of Ngommalath Rural Development and Poverty Eradication Office, represented the Government of the Lao PDR. During this day of celebration there were many exciting activities for children such as a tug of war, reading cartoon and story books, painting, planting trees and others.
In opening remarks Mr. BounNyasak said, “I want to say thank you to World Vision Lao for important development activities, especially development for the children in rural areas. We are happy to conduct this event for our children because these children are our next generation.”
He added that World Vision is conducting a large development programme for rural areas of Mahaxay, Ngommalath, Xaybuathong and Xebangfay Districts with continuous programme activities and support for these districts.
Ms. Amelia Merrick, National Director of World Vision in the Lao PDR, responded by saying “I am very happy to see our children celebrating Children’s Day because this can be a joyful time for all children. Indeed, children are our new generation who dare to think and be our friends.
Thao Sida, a young student from Ngommalath, shared his gratitude, “Thank you to my parents, the district government and World Vision in the Lao PDR for giving so much importance to me and other Lao children.”
A special thank you should be given to the Sabaidee@Lao Hotel and the Room to Read organisation for your participation, and provision of cartoon and story books for children. These interesting and colourful books with good meanings will encourage the rural children to enjoy reading and benefit their behaviour in life.
