Ensuring children are well nourished
Ambika, a mother of a two-year-old is proud to see her baby growing healthy.
She shares, “My daughter’s diet includes food I prepare like nutritious rice (posilo jaulo) and superflour, milk and banana. After attending a training I learnt to feed her all these and I am very happy to know that her weight has increased and her health is improving.”
Living in a remote eastern village of Nepal, Geeta was severely malnourished at 14 months weighing only five kilograms. Ambika, a mother of seven children, was not aware about her youngest child’s condition. Several months ago, Ambika took part in a training for pregnant and lactating mothers organised with the help of World Vision. The women also learnt about personal health and hygiene in the same training. Since then, Ambika and new mothers like her in the community, have been taking good care of their children and providing them with nutritous food.
Malnutrition is one of the major child health issues in the community where World Vision has been implementing a Maternal Child Health and Nutrition Project in Limpatar, Tawashree, Okhle, Rupatar, Lekhgaun and Iname Village Development Committees of Udayapur district in Nepal.
The goal is to improve health status of children between the age of 0-5 and their mothers by providing orientations and trainings and conducting awareness raising events.
