Saving to build a secure home

Friday, May 11, 2012

Masali Tamang, 27, has been able to build a secure home for her children with her savings over the years.

World Vision’s Area Development Programme in Kathmandu helped train many women like Masali to grow and sell seasonal and off seasonal vegetables on barren lands in Bhimdhunga Village Development Committee (VDC). With her savings from the income received after selling vegetables, particularly cucumbers over the years, Masali has been able to build a secure home for her small family with two children; Sushil, 7, and  Sujan, who is almost two years old.

Masali says “Our economic condition has improved a lot after I started selling vegetables, I don’t have to take loan from others now and I am also a member of a women’s savings group in my village. I was also able to pay for my older son’s treatment in the hospital when he was seriously ill with a kidney problem. All this has been possible because of my involvement in various trainings organised by World Vision.”
