EU Ambassador Engages in Climate Dialogue with World Vision Albania Youths
Tirana – This week, 29 young members of the IMPACT groups from World Vision Albania, accompanied by Executive Director Eljona Elmazi, held a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Albania, Mr. Silvio Gonzato. In a candid and open discussion, the youth engaged with the ambassador on a contemporary issue of critical importance: climate change and the environment.
The conversation focused on Chapter 27 of the EU’s policy regarding “Environment and Climate Change” and the vital role that young people play in addressing environmental issues. Young activists from World Vision, hailing from various cities across Albania, shared compelling stories about their involvement in the IMPACT groups, highlighting several impactful projects in their communities—from restoring greenery around Lake Paskuqan to organizing summer camps centered on climate issues. These initiatives reflect the commitment of these young leaders to create sustainable change.
“Together with other young people and with the support of World Vision Albania, we have undertaken various initiatives in our communities, such as clean-up actions, awareness-raising activities, and tree-planting campaigns. One success story I would mention is the greening of the areas around Lake Paskuqan, where we planted about 1,000 trees, turning it into a recreational space,” shared Ledjona, from Youth Advisory Board.
The ambassador encouraged, supported, and congratulated the youth several times for their engagement and courage in contributing to their communities and causes. He emphasized that “what they are doing is helping people and the country prepare for EU integration.”
“The future of Albania lies within the EU, and only by working together can we protect our shared environment and climate. Albania’s green transition is key to meeting the EU’s environmental standards and bringing us closer to our common goals. What you are doing right now is exactly what every European citizen should do. Through the initiatives you are undertaking, you are preparing your communities to be part of the EU. This has been one of the most brilliant discussions I’ve had, and the IMPACT model is extremely hopeful,” the ambassador expressed, highlighting his interest in seeing the initiatives taken by the youth in their communities.
During his speech, Mr. Gonzato also informed the young participants about the progress Albania has made in the European integration process and spoke specifically about the assistance the EU provides for environmental protection in Albania.
The young people attending the meeting are part of a network of 1,335 youth involved with World Vision Albania, who continuously engage in addressing the issues that concern their communities.
