In the presence of Mr. Oudomsin Sisanons, from the Provincial Education and Sports Department,  and Mr. Keo CHANTHALANGSY, Public Engagement Director for World Vision International Lao PDR, a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 21st October 2022 for the implementation of the Improving Learning Outcomes for Early Childhood and Primary Education in Sanamxay District, Attapeu Province. The MOU Signing Ceremony was held in the Attapeu Provincial Administration Office, under the chair of Mr. Bounseuth Sethilat provincial vice Governor.

The project aims to support the Education and Sports Sector Development Plan (ESSDP 2021-2025) to focus on children’s access to quality education at the primary school level, by improving the reading skills of Lao pupils in grades 1 to 3 and promoting hygiene and sanitation practices at school for all children to be healthy. The project also focuses on Early Childhood Learning outcomes for children aged 3-5 years old to be well prepared to enter primary school. The project is based on a holistic education approach, inclusive of all entities in the community to build a positive environment for children to learn. This includes promoting community participation, with Village Education Development Committees (VEDC) empowered to lead reading groups and conduct awareness campaigns on the core reading skills of the community. Children with disability will also receive particular attention to guarantee they enjoy equal access to learning opportunities.

Under this project, World Vision will work with local partners from the Ministry of Education and Sports to support 12 target villages (13 target schools), and build on its existing successful project models, to benefit over 11,500 individuals from Sanamxay district. The project will be implemented until September 2025, for total funding of 800,000USD provided by World Vision International support offices. With this new education project, the development agency continues to build brighter futures for the most vulnerable children in Lao PDR, with the aim of improving the lives of 1.3 million of them by 2026.
