Solomon Islands Government and World Vision Commit to Strengthened Collaboration

The Solomon Islands Government (SIG) and World Vision Solomon Islands (WVSI) on Friday, 25 April 2025 reaffirmed their mutual commitment to enhanced collaboration during a high-level meeting between the Prime Minister, Honourable Jeremiah Manele, and WVSI Leadership Team at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The visit served as an opportunity for WVSI to update the Prime Minister on its current programs, strategic direction, and development contributions across the country. With over four decades of presence in Solomon Islands, World Vision continues to play a critical role in supporting national efforts to reduce poverty, promote health, enhance livelihoods, and protect children and families.
WVSI National Director Jimmy Nadapdap provided an overview of the organization’s 42-year work in the country, underlining its alignment with the Solomon Islands Government’s National Development Strategy 2016–2035 through the new Country Strategy 2024–2028. The organization currently operates in all provinces and has field offices in Honiara, Guadalcanal, Malaita, Makira, and Central Islands Province, with a workforce of 112 staff.
“World Vision is deeply committed to walking alongside the people of the Solomon Islands. Our work is rooted in partnership - with government ministries, civil society, churches, and local communities. Through these collaborations, we are reaching thousands of people with life-changing programs in health, livelihoods, child protection, and climate resilience,” said Mr. Nadapdap.
A key highlight of the discussion was WVSI’s large-scale malaria and tuberculosis (TB) program delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) and supported by the Global Fund. WVSI is working closely with Provincial Health Directors and their teams across all provinces and the Honiara City Council to distribute 532,870 long-lasting insecticidal nets (mosquito nets) to households nationwide. Beyond distribution, the program prioritises behavior change communication to promote proper and consistent use and maintenance of mosquito nets—critical to malaria control and eventual elimination.
In addition to health programs, WVSI updated the Prime Minister on its child-focused and community-driven initiatives, including:
- The “Iumi Tugeda fo Pikinini” Child Sponsorship Program, set for implementation in 2026, which focuses on child protection, education, and climate resilience in 13 Honiara communities.
- Its work in disaster management, climate change adaptation, financial inclusion and livelihoods, child protection, and faith-based engagement, including partnerships with churches and faith leaders.
WVSI also reiterated its commitment to supporting the Solomon Islands in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 through the development of its WASH Business Plan 2026–2030, aimed at contributing to universal access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
WVSI’s impact continues to grow in 2023, its programs reached 140,000 children and adults, and in 2024 benefitted 130,000 people across the country.
In response, the Prime Minister Manele expressed appreciation for WVSI's longstanding commitment to Solomon Islands and its close coordination with government ministries.
“I commend World Vision Solomon Islands for its continued commitment to serving our people across the nation. Your efforts in malaria control, child protection, and livelihoods are commendable. The Government is committed to working together with WVSI and other partners to ensure our development efforts are coordinated and aligned with our National Development Strategy,” said Prime Minister Manele.
“I encourage continued collaboration between World Vision and the respective ministries, ensuring that we work hand-in-hand to deliver on our shared vision for an inclusive, healthy, and resilient Solomon Islands.”
The Prime Minister also welcomed WVSI’s commitment to organizing a field visit with the Permanent Secretary for the Social Sector, which will allow senior government officials to witness firsthand the impact of WVSI’s work in communities.
Both parties reiterated their dedication to forging stronger partnerships, deepening coordination, and maintaining transparency in order to achieve sustainable outcomes for all Solomon Islanders.
