WORLD VISION UGANDA HOSTS FIELD EXPOSITION AND MEETING ON NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FOR FOOD AND INCOME SECURITY
Tuesday, May 14, 2024

Yumbe, West Nile—World Vision Uganda hosts the Field Exposition and Meeting on Natural Resource Management for Food and Income Security from May 13th to May 15th, 2024, in Yumbe district, West Nile region.

This forum will be held with the overall objective of developing a common understanding among stakeholders on the need to collaborate with communities in advancing community-led actions on natural resource management for increased food and income security.

While sharing related insights, World Vision Uganda’s Refugee Response Director, Paul Mwirichia, explained that, the Field Exposition and Meeting on Natural Resource Management is a smart way to bring together key players across the respective value chain to pro-actively discuss environmental degradation as a development issue among other aspects.

“The Field Exposition and Meeting on Natural Resource Management is a great avenue to address some of the core issues that affect our environment. As likeminded stakeholders in this cause, we can ably discuss environmental degradation as a development issue, strengthening partnerships for community-led actions on natural resources management, increasing awareness about existing national and regional initiatives for restoration and food security, while sharing experiences/lessons learned in sustainable natural resources management,” he adds.

This high-level meeting will involve various stakeholders, including parliamentarians, government entities, civil society, community representatives, academics, media, and private sector actors.

The two-day event has been held with expectations of improved consensus on mainstreaming environmental issues into district development plans, enhanced collaborations between stakeholders, shared information on sustainable natural resource management practices, increased civic awareness on environmental conservation, and the development of an action plan for sustainable natural resources management across the respective value chain.

“In a bid to ensure full participation and achievement of all set goals, the event will feature a field exposure visit to project sites established by the Regreening and GFA project, where stakeholders will interact with participants and discuss opportunities for advancing community-led environment restoration practices. Additionally, focus on engaging policy and decision-makers concerning key policy concerns about environmental degradation and strategies for enhancing community-led practices for ecological restoration and food security will equally be explored,” explains Mwirichia.

The Field Exposition and Meeting on Natural Resource Management for Food and Income Security will be a transformative event, bringing together stakeholders from various sectors to collaborate on sustainable Natural Resource Management practices to benefit Yumbe and West Nile region communities.

About World Vision Uganda

World Vision Uganda is a Christian relief, development, and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities to reach their full potential by tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice. World Vision started working in Uganda in 1986, assisting communities in the ‘Luwero Triangle’ in central Uganda to resettle and rebuild their infrastructure after the 1981–1986 war. Activities extended to Arua and Nebbi districts in north-western Uganda to address poverty and the lingering destruction from the 1978–1979 war. World Vision then moved into Gulu in 1988, commencing relief programmes for internally displaced people at the start of the ongoing conflict in northern Uganda
