World Vision staff released in South Sudan

Friday, May 18, 2018

Nine World Vision humanitarian workers abducted on May 14, 2018 in South Sudan have been safely released today. The United Nations Office for Coordination of the Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) working with other UN agencies and local authorities, led the negotiations for the release.

“We are grateful our staff members and others have returned and we are thankful for the swift collaboration from partners who helped secure their release,” said Mesfin Loha, World Vision’s country director in South Sudan. “As a humanitarian organisation dedicated to providing children and their families with life-saving assistance in South Sudan, the safety of our staff and the children and communities we work with is our top concern.”

“We stand with and pray for those caught up in conflict and disaster around the world,” Loha said.
