Climate change presents the single biggest threat to human development, and its widespread impacts disproportionately burden the poorest and most vulnerable households in fragile and rural developing contexts, particularly women and children.

In the Middle East and Eastern Europe extreme weather events such as flooding, droughts, dust storms, heatwaves and mega-fires are increasing in frequency and intensity due to climate change. This is having a devastating effect on food security, nutrition and personal security due to forced migration (IOM 2023) . World Vision MEER operates in 16 countries, where ESCA programming priorities are addressing vulnerabilities to climate events.
