A REPORT ON IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CRISIS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION ON CHILDREN AND YOUTHS IN NEPAL
Friday, August 16, 2024

This study, conducted by a joint initiative of Child-Centered DRR and Climate Change (CDCC) Consortium, including Plan International Nepal, Save the Children, UNICEF and World Vision International Nepal, highlights the severe impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on children and youth in Nepal. As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, climate-related shocks like floods, storms, landslides, droughts, wildfires, and extreme temperatures pose significant risks to children's survival, health, and development. Environmental hazards such as water and air contamination also claim many children's lives annually.

The study examines how children and youth cope with climate-induced disasters and adapt to a changing climate. It identifies physical, social, economic, and psychological factors connected to climate change and explores coping practices. The findings highlight the profound effects of climate change on children and youth in Nepal and offer recommendations to accelerate climate actions, considering the vulnerabilities and capacities of young people.
