Excision: World Vision Al Jazeera factfile

Efforts to raise awareness against the practice of excision are at the heart of our work to protect children in the south of Senegal.

Al Jazeera correspondent in Dakar, Nicolas Haque, and Al Jazeera website journalist Fatma Naïb came with us to the village of Dialambéré near Kolda last February where we were holding our project called Art Stands Up for Kids with singer Sister Fa. They were able to witness World Vision's groundwork on raising awareness in communities about the terrible consequences of this practice which is still very widespread (94% of women over the age of 15) despite a ban being in place in Senegal for the last 18 years (source: EDS MICS survey Kolda 2014, Directorate of Protection for Children and Vulnerable Groups).
