Improving sanitation and health in Solomon Islands

Friday, September 27, 2013

Communities participated in Community Led Total Sanitation (CTLS) workshops to increase people’s understanding of how poor sanitation can significantly affect their health, education and financial wellbeing and to prompt them to take action and create change.

The workshops were the first of its kind in the Pacific, using the concept of community led development with the aim of improving the health of everyone and ensuring safe sustainable sanitation.

CLTS facilitates communities to understand and appreciate the link between open defecation and contamination of drinking water and food and health impacts like diarrhea and skin and eye infections.
