Thusalushaka Factsheet: Empowering Sekgosese Community

Embark on the transformative journey of Thusalushaka, a pioneering initiative by World Vision South Africa (WVSA), spanning over 55 years across six provinces, including Limpopo. Launched in 2010, the Thusalushaka Area Programme nears its conclusion in the current financial year. Guided by World Vision’s Ministry Framework, this program was meticulously crafted to suit the unique context of Thusalushaka, aiming to uphold the well-being of children within families and communities, especially the most vulnerable.

In the realm of education, Thusalushaka has catalyzed significant change. Prior to its inception, primary schools grappled with inadequate resources, limited debate opportunities, and long distances impacting student performance. Now, libraries brim with age-appropriate materials, and reading competitions flourish, benefitting thousands of eager learners. Additionally, a bicycle empowerment program has not only enhanced access but also contributed to improved academic outcomes.

On the frontlines of healthcare, the program’s impact is equally profound. Previously, pregnant mothers faced challenges with ANC visits, and malnutrition cast a dark shadow over communities. Today, mobilization efforts ensure timely ANC attendance, while malnutrition rates have dwindled across 15 communities. Moreover, caregivers are equipped to identify and promptly refer sick children to clinics, ensuring timely healthcare interventions.

Your sponsorship of Thusalushaka has yielded remarkable results in the Sekgosese community. Over 520 children have been engaged in faith-based activities, while nearly 8,000 students have joined the fight against violence. Access to clean water has been provided to close to 1,400 families, and over 11,000 students have been educated on safe water practices. Furthermore, reading circles have kindled a love for literature among 4,500 students, and 30 community health volunteers have empowered over 450 mothers with childcare knowledge.

Together, we’ve laid the groundwork for a brighter future. Your pivotal role in Thusalushaka and Sekgosese community’s development has empowered local leaders and families to enact tangible change. From bolstering child protection to ensuring access to clean water and healthcare, your support has set the stage for sustained progress. As we transition, the community of Sekgosese stands poised to continue thriving independently, carrying forth the legacy of positive change we initiated together.
