Mailato compared the situation before and after our intervention, highlighting that children from poor families were unable to attend school due to hunger, a problem exacerbated during the wet season when sago, the preferred staple, becomes scarce. Sago is typically harvested during the dry season to avoid logistical difficulties encountered in the wet season.

The PDH program is set to kick start next in the Bana District of South Bougainville and will continue into other communities to identify malnourished children and, give them a chance to bounce back to a healthy start.

Equipped with such knowledge and skills, Alphie is now able to be resilient against unpredictable Delta Fly weather patterns, where the wet seasons begin around late May and continue through most of June and early July; thus, it brings various challenges with it, such as floods and rising water levels that can affect gardens and the growth of food.
Diana Overcomes Disability: A Remarkable Journey of Resilience and Triumph
Diana, a single mother of five in Madang's Usino District, has turned her cocoa block into a successful enterprise through World Vision's Usino Climate Smart and Inclusive Cocoa Project. This initiative equips her with financial literacy and farming skills, enabling her to ensure her children's future. With support from the Savings for Transformation Group, Diana strategically manages her earnings to meet her children's needs. Despite challenges, her cocoa block is both a financial lifeline and a source of empowerment, illustrating the profound impact of community projects, resilience, and support.

With an annual grant portfolio of USD 35 million (120 million PGK), We lead vital programming in Education, Health, Livelihoods, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, Social Cohesion, and Peacebuilding.
Supported by institutional and multilateral donors, we are active in 12 of PNG’s 22 provinces, working across six field offices in the National Capital District, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Morobe, Madang, Southern Highlands, and Western Provinces, and extending our reach through partners across the nation.
Our mission aligns closely with the goals of the Government of Papua New Guinea, targeting the most vulnerable, particularly children, in hard-to-reach areas.
By working alongside communities, civil society, private sector stakeholders, NGOs, faith-based groups, and government agencies, we foster community empowerment and champion local ownership.

WATER SANITATION & HYGIENE
World Vision Papua New Guinea (WVPNG) is committed to expanding access to sustainable, clean drinking water and improving sanitation and hygiene through proven approaches such as Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST), and WaSH facilities installation.
Additionally, WVPNG strengthens local governance and enhances community capacity to design, fund, deliver, and sustain resilient, inclusive WaSH services. As a cluster co-chair with UNICEF, WVPNG partners with key stakeholders to drive impactful improvements in water, sanitation, and hygiene access across Papua New Guinea.

As an active member of the Local Education Group and the Education Cluster, WVPNG has developed strong partnerships with local education officials, forming a robust network of key partners committed to improving education standards and empowering future generations.
HEALTH : TB/HIV
World Vision Papua New Guinea (WVPNG) has been actively addressing tuberculosis (TB) and HIV for over a decade and has served as the Principal Recipient of the Global Fund** in Papua New Guinea since 2015.
With this unique role, WVPNG is positioned to make a direct, positive impact on the National TB and HIV programs, shaping effective health initiatives and strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations across PNG to improve health outcomes and disease prevention efforts nationwide.
HEALTH: NUTRITION
World Vision Papua New Guinea (WVPNG) is committed to helping children achieve their full growth and development potential by addressing child malnutrition** in early childhood (ages 0-5) and reducing illness, disability, and mortality due to vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs).
WVPNG's initiatives are aligned with the National Health Plan (2021-2030) and PNG Vision 2050, supporting sustainable health goals for future generations and fostering child health and development through improved nutrition and vaccination coverage.
DISASTER MANAGEMENT & RELIEF
World Vision Papua New Guinea (WVPNG) is dedicated to reducing the vulnerability and risk exposure of children and families by implementing a community-based disaster risk management approach. This strategy strengthens community resilience against natural disasters and enhances local authority preparedness for effective response.

Kamo
Kamo, a Village Health Assistant, and farmer, chose a vasectomy to support his wife’s health and focus on family nutrition. Through the BEAN project, he inspires his community in family planning and sustainable farming, fostering lasting health improvements for future generations.
Yanauo
Yanauo recalls how her community once relied on bamboo and plastic containers to collect water from a distant, unsafe well, which caused illnesses among children. World Vision’s Markham Wash project transformed this, introducing community-led sanitation, safe toilet practices, and handwashing routines. The community built toilets, which reduced sickness, and recently received a Gravity Fed Water Supply (GFS) system, providing six water taps across the village.
Mitiam
Mitiam, a resident of Kapara, describes the transformative impact of World Vision’s Markham Wash project. Before the intervention, villagers lacked safe water and proper toilets, leading to frequent illnesses, especially among children. When the project introduced sanitation practices and supported the construction of safe toilets, children's health improved significantly. The addition of a Gravity Fed Water Supply (GFS) system brought six communal taps, giving families convenient access to clean water for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Mitiam emphasises that the new system has lightened the burdens on women and children. He thanks Water for Women and partners for this essential support.
Henry
Henry, chairman of Kou Cocoa Cooperative, shares the success of the ANCP Climate Smart and Inclusive Cocoa project in Madang Province. The project, led by World Vision, trained farmers in climate-smart techniques and encouraged sustainable cocoa farming. Farmers learned crucial practices like agroforestry and organic fertilization, transforming neglected cocoa blocks into productive assets. The initiative also introduced Savings for Transformation (S4T) groups, helping farmers save earnings and strengthen financial resilience. With improved skills, a healthier domestic cocoa market, and support from partners, Henry believes the cooperative can thrive. Despite his visual impairment, Henry actively farms, inspiring his community toward sustainable change.
Henry
Papua New Guinea has the highest TB prevalence in the Pacific Region with an estimated 3,000 people dying each year of the disease. Due to an extreme shortage of health staff, PNG faces many challenges in treating people diagnosed with TB. World Vision’s TB treatment supporters help people with TB complete their medications. They are the silent frontline heroes in the fight against TB in the country.
