World Vision Lanka (WVL) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Nature Reserves – Sri Lanka (IUCNSL) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to increase their cooperation and to contribute to sustainable development and conservation through a collaborative approach.

The official agreement was signed by Suresh Bartlett, National Director, World Vision Lanka and Shamen Vidanage, Acting Country Representative of IUCN Sri Lanka at the IUCN office in Colombo recently.

This agreement will provide both organisations with a context and framework for developing and maintaining cooperation in the fields of their common interests on sustainable development and conservation of nature.

The partnership will enable both organisations to build a lasting relationship in order to enhance environmental performance and accountability of WVL and to incorporate conservation action in areas where WVL has medium to long term presence.

The partnership will also work on innovative approaches to leverage funding for sustainable development, sharing and learning between two organisations on biodiversity conservation through rural development and strategic level engagement to integrate biodiversity and environmental conservation aspects into operations of the WVL

In demonstration of their commitment to sustainable development, the organisations will, over the period of their planned partnership, endeavour to demonstrate joint leadership in the conservation and rural development sectors and use their combined comparative advantages, namely, convening power, global reach and spread as well as to leverage positive change for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

Both organisations will aim to add value to each other and ensure that together they are able to contribute substantively to influences in both the public and corporate arena to use best practices and standards in conservation and sustainable development.
