Herat Earthquake: six months on

On 7 October 7 2023, the devastating earthquake hit Herat, Afghanistan, impacting the lives of thousands of people. WV Afghanistan started its response immediately  by deploying its Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams to the affected communities.

WV Afghanistan expanded its response to include food and multi-purpose cash assistance, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), protection and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). With our generous donors and committed staff members, WV Afghanistan was able to reach over 129,100 people since then, including:

• Health, Nutrition & MHPSS: 44,078

• Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance: 14,609

• Food Assistance: 18,550

• WASH & NFI: 46,655, and

• Child Protection: 5,208
