On World Health Day, on the seventh of April, we celebrate the significant advancements in maternal and child health in Angola.  World Vision Angola, through the Mais e Melhor Saúde project, has been directly contributing to the reduction of neonatal and child mortality, with notable impact in the municipalities of Cazenga, Cacuaco, and Talatona.

In the 2023-2024 cycle, over 14 million micronutrient supplement tablets were distributed to more than 100,000 pregnant women, in addition to 900,000 Albendazole tablets for 400,000 children and 500 childbirth kits for mothers in vulnerable situations, helping to ensure the health of both mothers and babies, especially during and after childbirth.

These actions reflect the impact of the project: the World Health Organization (WHO) announced, on  seventh of April, that Angola has successfully reduced neonatal mortality from 24 to 16 deaths per 1,000 live births and child mortality from 44 to 32 deaths per 1,000 live births.

In a statement related to World Health Day, the WHO highlighted Angola’s “significant progress” in maternal and child health, encouraging the Angolan government and its partners to continue investing in high-impact health services. The Ministry of Health of Angola also emphasized the advances in reducing neonatal, child, and under-5 mortality rates, as evidenced by the WHO.

The work of World Vision Angola is a clear example of how effective partnerships and projects can contribute to saving lives and ensuring a healthy future for mothers and children.
