DR Congo: Chosen continues to be an unforgettable experience for the children of Karawa AP.

In its development program in Karawa, located in the North-Ubangi province, World Vision DRC organized a Chosen event that left a lasting impact on the community. On this day, 17 children had the unique opportunity to choose their sponsors through a photo exhibition, an innovative approach that reverses the traditional sponsorship dynamic.
A Choice Based on the Child’s Will
Unlike traditional methods where sponsors select children from a distance, Chosen gives children the power to choose their own sponsor. The event took place in an open space, under carefully set up tents to create a welcoming and festive atmosphere. The sponsors' photos were displayed on visible stands, allowing children to view them at their own pace and make their choices in complete peace of mind.
Felly, 12 years old, expressed her joy after selecting her sponsor:
“It was a special moment for me. I took my time to look at each photo, and I chose the person who inspired me the most.”
For Grace, 8 years old, this event was an emotional discovery: “I didn’t know that one day, it would be me choosing my sponsor. I felt so much joy when I made my choice.”
A Joyful Moment
The event was filled with dancing, singing, and a festive atmosphere. Under the tents decorated for the occasion, children and their families shared moments of happiness, strengthening the community bond.
Hélène, the grandmother of José, a sponsored child, expressed her emotion enthusiastically:
“Thank you so much, dear sponsor! I was so happy to see my grandson José choosing his sponsor. It was a unique moment for me, as I had never seen such an activity before. I know that with my grandson’s sponsorship, we will soon have access to clean water. If you had been there, you would have seen me dancing!”
The neighborhood chief, who was also present, highlighted the impact of Chosen on the community:
“This initiative gives more dignity to the children. They are no longer just beneficiaries, but actors of their own future.”
A Closing Moment Full of Sharing
After the selections, a communal meal was organized under the tents, where children, parents, and organizers shared a moment of warmth and conviviality. Everyone left with a smile, convinced that this day would remain in their memories.
Thanks to Chosen, these children not only found a sponsor but also experienced something that gives them confidence in themselves and in the future. World Vision DRC continues to innovate to build strong bridges between children and their sponsors, providing them with valuable support for their growth and well-being.
