DR Congo: The powerful impact of the Gift Catalogue Project ensures a better future for the community of Kirumba
By Rodrigue Harakandi, Communications Officer
World Vision's Gift Catalogue project, funded by the Canada support office, has brought about an extraordinary transformation in Kirumba, located in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Through its activities, the project has achieved three key results, which have had a significant impact on the lives of its participants.
Promoting agricultural activities in the region
The first objective of the project is to promote the development of agricultural activities in the region. Farming tools including 860 hoes, 430 watering cans, and 430 rakes were distributed to 860 households. In addition, seeds for maize, beans, amaranth and cabbage were provided, enabling families to start growing their own crops. In addition, training on good farming practices was provided to 430 people, enabling local farmers to improve their production methods, and 10 experimental fields were set up to test these new techniques and share the knowledge acquired with the community.
Promoting household income through livestock farming
The second objective of the project is to boost household income through livestock farming. Goat broodstock, chickens, and roosters were distributed to households, providing opportunities for livestock rearing and income generation. In addition, participants received comprehensive training in raising small ruminants and poultry, as well as veterinary care to ensure the health and well-being of the animals. This initiative has enabled families to diversify their sources of income and strengthen their food security.
Promoting protection and hygiene for young girls
Particular attention has been paid to the protection and hygiene of young girls, underlining the project's deep commitment to their well-being. Dignity kits, offering essential hygiene products, were given to 680 young girls, enabling them to face the challenges associated with hygiene and health. These kits are much more than just a material gift; they are a source of dignity and confidence for these young girls, enabling them to flourish and meet all the challenges they face.
Testimonials from participants
The testimonies of the participants in the Gift Catalogue project are a clear reflection of its positive impact on the community of Kirumba. "This project is transforming my life. I realise that change is possible thanks to these development initiatives. May God bless the efforts we are making, and I pray that my daughter Vinciane and her two brothers will be able to grow up enjoying the benefits of this extraordinary project", said Noëlla Ngavo, a 30-year-old participant
"The Gift Catalogue project was a concrete response to the needs of this community. However, with very limited financial resources, many challenges remain and continued support is essential to ensure the survival and development of the community", emphasises Amerhit Mukengere, Project Coordinator, the importance of the Gift Catalogue for the community of Kirumba
